A Call for New Leaders
The United States faces declining social and economic mobility, rising social tension, and declining trust in public institutions and leadership.

At the same time, global systems are undergoing profound structural strain. Economic transitions, ecological pressures, geopolitical instability, and technological acceleration are reshaping the environments in which leaders must operate.

These challenges are not simply isolated crises. They reflect deeper shifts in the systems that shape economic life, political institutions, and global cooperation.

For emerging leaders, the task is not simply to respond to events, but to develop the judgment required to navigate complex systems, balance competing responsibilities, and act with clarity in uncertain conditions.
The Nordic countries offer a powerful context in which to examine these questions. Across government, industry, and civil society, Nordic institutions provide widely studied examples of governance, collaboration, transparency, and long-term public stewardship.

NSLI researches best practices in leadership education, entrepreneurship, and leadership for sustainability. We conduct academic research and write on the topics of leadership for sustainability and Nordic leadership. NSLI's evidence-based findings support our leadership program design.
